Happy Tuesday, to all of you around the world!
ONE IDEA: NEVER HAVE SECONDS
When deciding whether to have seconds or not, you often try to limit yourself - “I’ll only have a small second helping.”
It’s a self-negotiation, and most of the time, you convince yourself that it’s okay.
By making a rule of never having seconds, you eliminate the negotiation. Making one decision - never having seconds - eliminates 1095 other decisions (3 meals x 365 days).
This idea isn’t about food. It’s about identifying areas where you can make one decision which eliminates a bunch of other decisions.
The benefit of making fewer decisions is improved thinking, improved decision making, and improved discipline. It’s clarity, instead of chaos.
LISTENING & RE-LISTENING
I’ve been watching and re-watching Charlie Munger’s 2007 USC Commencement Speech. Charlie Munger is the vice-chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, arguably the most successful investment firm of all time.
This speech isn’t about investment, it’s about life. It’s incredibly powerful because it helps you look at your thinking and make small changes to improve it. Good thinking creates good decision making, but it requires training.
You can find the speech on YouTube, and I’ve made a summary of all the important parts. Access it by clicking the button below.
QUESTION I’M ASKING MYSELF
"Will this matter in 6 months time?"
This question is helping me focus on things which matter in the long run, and avoid things which distract me in the short run. It’s helping me focus on the wildly important.
P.s. Thank you to everyone who’s been sharing this newsletter.
