IDEAS I’M PONDERING
“The Pursuit of Happiness”
The pursuit of happiness and the search for success are independent events.
You can embark on both journeys at the same time.
Don't sacrifice happiness in pursuit of success.
“It’s above my pay grade”
What an awful saying. What an awful way to approach your work.
Your work is an opportunity to make an impact. It's an opportunity to reach out, connect, and go the extra mile. It's an opportunity to show yourself, not others, what you're capable of. It's your chance to make things better.
"It's above my pay grade" is the opposite. It’s doing the bare minimum, giving the least effort, and allowing your talents to slip into the abyss.
You spend an awful lot of your life working. If you plan to make it meaningful, the “It’s above my pay grade” mentality is one to avoid.

George Hotz on the Lex Fridman Podcast
George Hotz, also known as Geohot, became the first person to hack the iPhone in 2007, while he was still in high school. A few years later, he made a similar exploit by hacking the PlayStation and releasing his code online, which resulted in a lawsuit from Sony. Since then, Hotz had stints at several high-profile tech companies such as Google, Facebook and SpaceX. Hotz is impressive, but that’s not why I loved this episode.
It’s clear that he sees the world through a different set of lenses. His views are refreshing, humourous, and often, absolutely insane. He’s crazy, but listening to him provides glimpses of the world we should be working towards. That’s priceless.
That’s all for this week. Look out for new content in the coming week. I’ve got a few short pieces on the way, as well as a big project lined up. As always, thank you to those who support my work. If you’d like to join, you can support me on Patreon or simply share my work with a friend.
Have a great week!
