BE WARY OF POTENTIAL
Humans love potential. It's why we root for the youngster, mourn the loss of the musician we never knew, and find ourselves backing the underdog.
Potential comes with an air of excitement about what might transpire or what the possibilities might be.
But potential is dangerous. It causes us to view all ideas as smash hits waiting to be executed. It causes us to overestimate the likelihood of success, and commit our resources to the first sign of potential that comes our way.
The problem arises when a real smash hit comes along, because we're too tired, too busy or too disheartened to pursue it.
Knowing when to say no is a superpower.
